3 Tips for Landing Press for Your StartupBuilding relationships is key to getting the coverage you want.

ByNina Zipkin

Getting the word out about your new venture doesn't have to be intimidating. Antonio Neves, leadership coach and founder ofTHINQACTION, has three tips on getting press for your startup.

1. Start small and targeted.Connect with the bloggers that cover your industry and build a rapport with them. You'll get on their radar, and if they choose to write about you, their story could get picked up by a major publication, leading to even more coverage.

2. Think before you pitch.Journalists get pitched every day, so be discerning about what kind of contact you make. Don't send six emails or press releases when one or two will suffice.

3. Take the long view.Don't expect a cover story right out of the gate. When pitching, introduce yourself and your product and show you're aware of what kind of stories they cover. Also don't ask for press, just put your best foot forward and trust that your product and approach is compelling.
